How long does ink generally last in a Brother printer?

If an ink cartridge, once taken out of its packaging will generally last around six months. As a rule of thumb, you should look to replace inks after this period if they are already installed, as ink can start to degrade over time. This can affect image quality, especially if you print for photographic purposes.

Will my ink dry up if I don't use it?

To ensure longevity with your inks, only open them from their packaging when replacing the cartridge. Before then, ensure it remains sealed and kept in a dark space and upright. Upon installation, ensure you run a test print page at least every two weeks to keep the ink and print heads primed.

Why is my ink running out so fast?

Suppose you feel your ink is running out quickly. In that case, you could be using a high-density font for everyday printing when it is unnecessary. You can change both the font and economy level if you are printing everyday documents.

What can I do to make my ink last longer?

You can switch to economy or draft mode. Also, proof your documents for mistakes before you print them. Look to only print in colour when necessary. Also, using OEMs is proven for longevity.

Why do my colour inks get low when I only print in black?

Some printers use a small amount of coloured ink from your cartridge even though you are solely printing in black. As with the newer models, the technology ensures they are kept primed for future use.
